When Don’t Doesn’t Mean Don’t
Most people tend to find it easy to vocalise what they don’t want in their lives.
“I don’t want to be fat”
“I don’t want to smoke any-more”
“I don’t want to be scared of flying”
“I don’t want to be anxious all the time”
There is a problem with this though, there is a belief that the subconscious doesn’t process negation. This stands to reason as how can you imagine something that isn’t there?
For example – Don’t think of a pink elephant.
What did you think of? 99 times out of a 100 you would have thought of a pink elephant so you would know what not to think of.
So next time you set your goals and expectations for the future state what you actually want instead. Also state them in the “now” so the subconscious starts to think of them as “normal”. So for instance with food this enables us to feel comfortable pushing that extra helping away as eating less just feels right. Put some good emotions in as well as this makes them “stick” more.
“I love being slim, fit and healthy”
“I feel great being calm and in control as an ex smoker”
